A dynamic IP is an address that is assigned to your computer each time it connects to the internet. If the IP is dynamic, you will always have a different address each time you connect. This can cause problems if you want to allow other computers to locate your computer for gaming, web serving, or a voice over IP application to make long distance phone calls.
A static IP is an address that is assigned to your computer and doesn't change each time you connect to the internet. You will need this to connect with others for gaming, to do Web hosting locally on your computer or to be able to access your computer over the Internet (for example, PC Anywhere or FTP access).
